Shallow & Depth
How profound your subjective experience is, & how powerful your expression you share with others, is a direct reflection of how deep you have looked into life. There are benefits to know alot about a little yes, but those fragmented ideas have no power to anchor you & those around you into an equanimous state of being. Look around, & you will see many human beings who have halted their evolution at the shallows refusing to spend even a moment with themselves. Many of us, not knowing how to swim through the great ocean of life's being, cling to the shallow end of its existential waters. In moments of loneliness, many reach for an electronic tool to pacify their existential dread, never daring to leave their attention open to the vast cosmos which surrounds them. A creation too magnificent to describe or bottle into a simple conclusion. This terror can be quelled, only momentarily though, with inventions tailored made to occupy the human psyche.
The smartphone in particular, which I have observed as an adult pacifier or personal lottery machine if used unconsciously, grips the minds of those with no awareness of an existential footing. The more time I spend away from this gadget which can undoubtedly be helpful to many aspects of my life as a person, the more I understand the detrimental effects of indulging in its addiction. Like a drug which longs to join the body, many people, across the globe I suspect, are compulsively bound by this idea sold to us that technology has the power to fill a God sized hole. It has been said before that "all of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone", & I see this is because this goes against the evolutionary design of life for each individual to naturally, magically mature with the flow of life as it's happening in real time. Life is a bottomless pit, so it is the safest place to fall. The safest place to be without We fear falling down a pit with an end for anticipating the ground's impact, but we don't relate this as closely to superficiality as we should.
Have you ever sat with yourself for long enough to feel that you were slowly bringing yourself together, only to have it disperse when the urge to obey the desires of techno-use strikes again? I've experienced this sensation many times, & each level of bringing consciousness to the compulsion creates a new level of serenity & intelligence within my system. This is a clarity that happens without effort. Life is simply trying to touch us at all times to create a more developed version of what we are now as the nature of life itself is constant evolution. We have been educated to believe growth happens through accumulation, but this claim completely disregards the inherent magic of what we're currently experiencing as a living breathing cosmos. Contrary to popular belief, one's being, mind & body actually develop far more integrity through simply sitting, doing nothing, being no one. If you expose your attention to presence, all contradictions within your mind will arise to the surface which you may or may not have been ignoring through pleasure seeking. This slow burn of allowing yourself to observe your own ignorance is only temporarily painful, & reveals a newfound sense of consistent peace & self respect because it provides the opportunity to reorganize. True order can happen only if all information has become conscious. Otherwise what you are unaware of will rule you from within.
But today, it's become rare to see individuals who are brave enough to keep their head out of the proverbial sand to look around & within them in a public space. This same space that was designed by the creator to hone our ability to become sensitive enough to merge with it; to slowly know the true meaning of expansion. Identities with smaller versions of ourselves, illusions, lead us to focus on what is shallow. Creations of man can only bring us so far until we make lateral movements into a similar consumption of equal value that brings only more desire & dependence. If you notice your system closely, even with shallow forms of food, notably processed products, the more you eat it, the more of it you desire because what the system actually desires is wholeness: an integrity that will continually evade one who entertains superficiality. However, if you eat food from the depths, that is directly from Earth as nature intended, unadulterated by a for profit company who cares not about the sensibility of your gut biome, but the minimizing of their cost of goods, will actually bring the mind & body to a sensation that "this is enough''.
I wonder when was the last time you felt this within yourself, that this experience right here is good. Maybe there was a great laugh between you & your best friend, as opposed to watching a tv show of some virtual character laughing with their virtual best friend; or the shirt made from 100% organic cotton which brought your entire body to ease instead of the polyester synthetic "garment" which slowly introduces toxins through the largest organ in your body, the skin. Or perhaps the simple & powerful rays of sunlight on your skin which not only provides light & warmth, but nutrition for the wellbeing of your mind & body, which cannot compare to an electric light which provides only a fraction of the star of our solar system's brilliance.
Yes these occurrences may be hard to come by on a regular basis, but only because you have prioritized shallowness in a society which has accepted it to the point of forgetting an alternative exists. One has to stumble upon depth to rediscover its power in today's world. But it's not something we have to look hard for, it's simply what is all around us if we are willing to abstain from the socially normal behaviors which we believe provide stability, even if only for a few hours a day. If you make a point to remove superficiality, I know your life will blossom as we are living in this soil of miraculous development as you read this now. If you have the ability to try this experiment for even a week, you will find the longing for low hanging fruit will eventually appear pointless. Quick & easy endeavors are not enough to fulfill human beings although many of us have been convinced this is the way to wholeness. But truthfully, they are only crumbs of joy which do not empower, but degrade your ability to live an intentional & impactful life. We all have the ability to sail, but we must first step into the ocean to see this is so.
